Simple shooting star particle effect: After Effects tutorial

This is a very easy effect to make but it involves using particles which often scare people off because particles can be very tricky to handle. Once mastered particles can give some amazing effects and hopefully this tutorial will give you some where to get started! There are NO third party plugins needed, just good old After Effects stuff.

I’ve been looking at how to make cool camera effects in After Effects but I had a bit of trouble using the camera object to do anything meaning full (or simple) with out making a mess or just failing me. With perseverance in my pocket and a lot of “FFS BLOODY WORK!” I managed to find a simple and effective way to pan and zoom the camera in After Effects. You use a Null object as a mediator. Null objects speak both English and Camera so can translate what you do for the camera to understand.

Add this effect to the Growing vine animation for some awesome results!

Growing vine animation: After Effects Tutorial Part 2 After Effects

This is the second part of the tutorial where we get into the nitty gritty of After Effects! You can really see the benefit of using the groups in PhotoShop and doing all the preparation when you import into After Effects. Then using the Write-on tool I will show you how to quickly and simply animate the vines.

Growing vine animation: After Effects Tutorial Part 1 Photoshop

This is the first part of the tutorial for the Growing vine animation I’ve made! OK It’s a little in depth with Photoshop and not much After Effects but it’s it makes it a lot easier on you in After Effects if you can get the starting file in place. There are also a few cool little tricks I’ve learnt while doing this. When you create a folder in Photoshop and import the .PSD (PhotoShop Document) into After Effects it makes the folders compositions! How about that for connivence?

Working on Part 2 now, should be out later this week if not tomorrow!

In this tutorial I show you how to make a cool Matrix style colour tint effect which will make all your movies moody, dynamic and cool guaranteed! (Well kinda) It’s a really simple and very effective technique of adding a professional look to our videos to get awesome results with minimal effort. How to make Sin City style video effects: After Effects tutorial

I’ve been working a Sin City style video effects which makes one colour stand out and the rest of teh video black and white. This tutorial shows the technique I found most effective. There’s some simple masking involved and the use of some cool video effects. It’s not hard to follow and it’s very effective, give it a go with one of your videos and see what you can make!

Importing Photoshop brushes into Adobe After Effects

Ok It’s been a while since my last video tutorial so here’s one to prepare you for my up comming Blood splatter text tutorial! It will be gory

After Effects doesn’t have an official way to import Photoshop brushes but this method works for me and I’ll be using it in upcoming tutorials ^_^

Unfortunately I did this and forgot to write anything down so I shall make it up as I go along.

Starting in photo shop you need to make a transparent document large enough to fit your desired brush in.
Make sure your colour is set to white and use your brush, if your canvas is larger than the area of your brush then use the crop too to make it smaller.
Save this image as a .PNG file and you are ready to move into After Effects!
Once in After Effects create a new project and import the image by double clicking in the project library.
Create a new composition matching the dimensions of your brush image and make sure to set the pixel aspect ratio to “Square pixel”.
Drag your image into this composition and it should fit perfectly.
Add an effect to the image (Effects>Colour correction>Change Colour To)
Set the Lightness Transform to -50, the Saturation transform to 100 and the Colour to Change to white
use the Hue Transform to change the colour of your brush

There you have it! Create a main composition and you can drag your “Brush composition” into that and use it like any other composition. Make sure your Main composition is also a “Square pixel” aspect ration so that the pixels match or you will end up with a squished image.
